Math Problem of the Week

Occupation Problem

Arthur, Bobbi, Cheri, and Dan are at their weekly luncheon. Their occupations are actor, botanist, carpenter, and drummer, but not necessarily in that order. Dan just told the botanist that Cheri was going to be late to the luncheon. Arthur is sitting across from the drummer and next to the carpenter. The drummer never said a word. What is the occupation of each person?

Dancing Sevies are Engaged Sevies

Submitted by david.thacker on

Spanish Fork Junior High students are full of surprises.  Take for example this video recently shared by seventh-grade English teacher Jaimie Dannelly.

Ms. Dannelly said that her Sevies, “dance down the hall every day on the way to my class, and they planned something special last week.”

This says something about what it’s like here at SFJH.  Sure, it’s crazy and goofy sometimes, but when students go out of their way to make the memorable, that means they are engaged.  It means they trust and appreciate their teachers.

 A Cranberry Craving

On Thanksgiving Thursday, Carissa ate some cranberries.  The next day she couldn’t stop thinking about how good the cranberries were and ate seven more cranberries than she had eaten on Thursday.  Each day after that she ate seven more cranberries than the day before.  By the following Wednesday she had eaten a total of 161 cranberries for the whole week. How many cranberries did Carissa eat on Thanksgiving Thursday?

What is a Pacer?

Submitted by david.thacker on

Yesterday, we ran the Pacer test in our P.E. classes.
For those that don't know what the Pacer is, it is a 20-meter, multistage, aerobic capacity test that progressively get more difficult as it continues.
All the students did great but these few were the top ones of their classes.

Seventh-graders Write Half-minute Horror Stories

Submitted by david.thacker on

How scared can you get in just thirty seconds?

Ms. Knecht's English 7 classes wrote their own Half-Minute Horror stories! Although these stories may have taken only thirty seconds to read, Ms. Knecht's students worked hard on their stories for weeks! From studying examples, to brainstorming their own unique ideas, to writing multiple drafts and working with their writing groups, to sharing their final stories with the class, Ms. Knecht's students showed they are true authors!

Check out some of their best sentences posted outside Ms. Knecht's classroom, room 35.

Readers Focus on Characters

Submitted by david.thacker on

Ms. Knecht's Reading for Enjoyment students transformed into some of their favorite book characters last week!

You could find Dumbledore, Percy Jackson, everyone's favorite wimpy kid, Greg, and more hanging out and getting to know each other at the Reading for Enjoyment Halloween Party. But, they couldn't reveal their identity until the end of the party! They did a great job trying to guess each other's characters and bringing their own characters to life.
