At Spanish Fork Junior High, every 7th grader will pass through Ms. Goates science class—EVERY sevie!  As a result, she knows how to get them engaged in learning through the scientific method.  You remember the scientific method, don’t you?  Think of interesting questions, formulate hypotheses, develop testable predictions, gather data to test predictions, develop general theories, make observations…and then the cycle begins again.

So what was the interesting question students tested this week?  Which type of paper airplane flies the farthest?  As you can see, students are engaged and learning how to work through the steps of authentic research.

Parents—if you have a seventh-grader in science this semester, ask them about their paper airplanes.
