Eighth grade English students participated in an end-of-term silent museum walk which featured their own writing skills. Each student created a three-paragraph placard that documented a remarkable event or icon in The Civil Rights Movement. After reading Getting Away with Murder: The True Story of the Emmett Till Case, students researched a picture that piqued their interest and wrote an expository piece to accompany it. The student writing was then shared via an in-class museum where all were asked to write one sentence about each picture's significance. Mrs.Thompson was impressed by quality work she saw and was "blown away" by many of the connections and insights students had regarding racial tension in America today.
