On September 27, 2011, two busses of excited 7th grade students left SFJHS for a field trip to Antelope Island State Park in the Great Salt Lake.  On the bus trip to Antelope Island, students pointed out important Utah landmarks like the Bingham Copper Mine.  Once at Antelope Island, Mr. Roberts and Mr. Bake took students on an amazing hike to the top of Buffalo Point where they enjoyed jumping around on huge boulders, exploring caves, holding a snake, looking at a big scary spider, and finding what looked like Native American rock art. Meanwhile, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Hubbard took other students buffalo sighting.  While no buffalo were found in the round-up pens, students were able to have an “extreme close-up” experience when the bus driver pulled up right next to three huge buffalo!  The highlight of the trip was wading in the Great Salt Lake to collect salt water and brine shrimp samples to take home and analyze.  Brady Lewis and Wyatt Baum tried to test the “try to sink” theory by wading into the lake up to their necks and survived to tell their exciting story to all who would listen on the return trip.   In the end, the 100 students who went had an awesome time visiting Utah’s most famous physical feature.
