Author Tess Hilmo visited with Mr. Anson’s Honors English 9th on October 24, 2017. She encouraged students in their preparation to participate in National Novel Writing Month, inspiring them to chase their dreams and work hard to achieve them.

Ms. Hilmo shared parts of her own personal journey of becoming an author, as well as parts of her novels—With a Name Like Love (2011), Skies Like These (2014), and Cinnamon Moon (2016)—and personal stories to illustrate parts of the planning and writing and thinking processes involved in crafting a novel. She answered questions regarding the daunting task of next month’s NaNoWriMo challenge.

Many students found Ms. Hilmo’s advice valuable and scribbled as fast as they could anything that came out of her mouth. It’s always a pleasure to connect to real writing with real authors who live among us.
