Spanish Fork Junior High School recently had a band concert this last Wednesday, December 19th. The concert took place in the Spanish Fork High School auditorium. The one hour band concert was directed by Ms. Bridgett Johnson. If you were not feeling the holiday spirit before the concert you sure were after! The music was full of holiday cheer. It was cold outside but, when you heard the music, you were warmed up by the festive music. You could tell that our school’s band worked very hard on these amazing songs. Some of the songs played by the concert band were “Haitian Holiday”, “Winter Scene”, “Swinging’ into Christmas” “First Snowfall”, and “Midnight Sleigh Ride”. A few of the songs that the jazz band played were “What a Wonderful World”, “Frosty the Snowman”, and “Nutcracker Rock”. In “Frosty the Snowman” there was a solo by Richard Woolston. There were three sets of music performed. First, the seventh grade, second was the Jazz Band, and third was the eighth and ninth grade Concert Band. The way the songs came together was just beautiful. All of the musicians played beautifully and you could really hear just how well they came together as one. It was so well played that everything sounded harmonious.  You could really hear how each instrument complemented each other. The band had practice in class, before school, and most of the students practiced at home to make the music perfect for this concert. Their hard work definitely paid off.

One of the unique aspects of the concert was to encourage the audience to be participants. Before the concert on the way in, each member of the audience had the option to write down their feelings the music gave them. The teacher/director plans to post and share the papers with the students. The program was a very holiday festive light green. A very special thanks to our amazing administrators Matt Christensen (Principal), Alesha LeMmon (assistant principal), and Blake Mortensen (dean of students). Another round of very special thanks to Julie Christofferson (district fine arts coordinator), Clint Roberts (Spanish Fork High School director of bands), Andy Hunsaker (Spanish Fork High School drama department head). Also, the fantastic stage technicians, and all of our outstanding band participants and, the wondrous parents.
