To Be or Not To Be a Winner Not the Question for SFJHS Shakespeare Team

Submitted by david.thacker on

October 6-8, our school's Shakespeare Team went to Cedar City on the SUU campus to compete against other junior high and middle schools in acting and dancing!

On Thursday, at about 3:00 pm, they arrived at the hotel then went to take group pictures. Later that evening, they had a chance to visit the Tuachan theater and watch the performance Grease. Even though it was cold and rainy, the team still had a good time.

Early Friday morning, they went to SUU and were able to participate in different workshops before their performances. The “Cause and Effect” ensemble dance, inspired by Othello, performed in the morning, and the acting ensemble group, The Merchant of Venice, performed later in the afternoon. They returned back to the hotel where they could swim until lights out.

Monologues and scenes were performed on Saturday, as well as the duo dance. Any members of the team who were not performing could pick which performances they went to. This went on throughout the day until the Awards Ceremony, which was held at the Centrum Arena that evening.

We are proud to report that Jessica Peabody and Jaden Jensen took first place in their duo dance “Reminiscence” inspired by Sonnet 27. The “Cause and Effect” ensemble dance took second and the school took third in the overall sweepstakes. A Midsummer Night's Dream, a scene with Jenessa Pratt, Kenny Van Ausdal and Holly Leavitt, took fourth, (not officially awarded). A very happy team returned home around 1:00 am. on Sunday with their awards.

Thank you Ms. Holley and Morgan Hansen for you support, and thank you to all those who participated.
