Mrs. Thacker’s FACS Exploration A classes were busy making Book Buddies this week.

Every Book Buddy is unique because each student creates their own pattern and design concept. It’s fun to see just how much personality can be created by fabric scraps, a few buttons, and some thread.

A Book Buddy is a small stuffed toy that is made for first graders.  It's designed to be small enough to easily fit in the first graders’ desks.  First graders can read out loud to their Book Buddies to improve their reading fluency.

Book buddies are a collaborative effort.  Now that the students in FACS Exploration A are done creating the Book Buddies, the National Jr. Honor's Society will name them and create a small story about them.  While National Jr. Honor Society is busy writing stories, second-semester FACS Exploration A and Apparel Design and Production 1 classes will start working on creating more Book Buddies.

All of the Book Buddies that are created this year will be delivered to area first graders next year.

If you want to make a Book Buddy, make sure to sign up for FACS Exploration A (7th or 8th grade) or Apparel Design and Production 1 (9th grade).
