The Spanish Fork Junior High Lady Lobos Basketball Team had an incredible season full of growth and success. Preseason match-ups with Lehi, Lakeridge, and American Fork Junior High proved to be learning experiences that helped the Lobos recognize their own weaknesses and capitalize on their strengths throughout the remainder of season play. “We knew early on that shooting inside was going to be a struggle,” said Chris Thompson who coached the team with her husband Marv. “However,” Thompson went on to explain, “our girls have heart and determination—two things you can't coach. You've either got them or you don't.” Apparently, this group of young ladies had far more than heart and drive as their season was full of consistently improved stats and a winning record.

Reflecting on the team's season, both coaches agree that the Lady Lobos' 'team mentality' is what led them to many of their victories. Citing the aggressive defensive play of Ammy Trujillo and Cassidy Crook, the determination of top scorer Elle Jackson, and three-point shooters Savannah Pritchett and Katelyn Rigtrup the Thompsons believe that their well-rounded team had the ability to compete with any team they encountered. “Our two Maddi's and all of our players who came off the bench contributed to every win and always gave their one-hundred-percent best. You can't ask for more than that.”

With a season record of 6 and 4, the Lady Lobos proved they could beat all but one team in their region and are hoping to find a way to stop the very aggressive Uintah Utes in a post season game next week.

Both coaches would like to thank the players for coming together and putting forth the effort it takes to improve and be competitive in a team sport.
