Parents, Students and Friends –

Parents - Your Help is Requested

This year, as part of our continuing improvement process, Spanish Fork Junior High will be going through accreditation.  This allows the credits that we give here to be valid and transferable to other schools, including high school. We need your help as part of the process. Please complete the parent survey found at the following link - http://www.advanc-ed.org/survey/public/7495120  - We need as many parents participating as possible. Your help is appreciated!

Be a Part of 4H Clubs

This week we started our November 4-H Afterschool Clubs.  We are offering 2 STEM clubs; Mission to Mars and Planting Your Future.  If you’ve ever wanted to go to Mars, now’s your chance - In this club you will learn how to design a full mission to Mars from the buildings for their Martian colony, to the rockets that get them there and scientific missions to explore the red planet. Using tools such as Google Mars and a wind tunnel you will discover whether your astronaut can land safely on Mars or be lost in space forever. If you love plants and flowers and are interested in floral design and the evolution of plants, then Planting Your Future club is for you!  We still have openings in both clubs.  You can find the November calendar on our website http://sfjhs.nebo.edu/content/4h Pick up your enrollment form and register in the main office.   The cost is $5.00 per club, $10.00 if it’s the first club you’ve signed up for.  Don’t delay, sign up today and tell a friend.

Utah Scholars Information for 8th & 9th grade parents:

We had a great time presenting the Utah Scholars program to the 8th graders last week. Please go to https://www.utahscholars.org/ and https://stepuputah.com/ where you can sign up for a parent newsletter, students can sign up to receive monthly tips about how to better prepare for graduating high school, the required curriculum, what to do in grades 9-12 and how Utah Scholars and the Regents' Scholars programs help students potentially qualify for more scholarships towards college. It's a great way to be involved together in helping your student take that first step towards college planning.

 Badminton Begins Monday

We want to invite all students to be a part of our SFJHS Intramurals program. Intramurals run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year, rotating the sport played every 2-3 weeks. Our next sport will be BADMINTON and will run from 7:30-8:00am beginning Monday, Nov 9th and continuing through Nov 19th.  Students that want to participate can visit with Mrs. Averett or Mrs. Denter to sign-up. We encourage all students to be involved in this no cost, extracurricular program.  Research has shown that students who are involved in extracurricular programs are more likely to have a higher G.P.A., a stronger sense of self and greater feelings of belonging with their peers.  We believe there are many benefits for students who participate, the best one being they have a lot of fun!

Individual CCR Conferences Underway for All 8th Graders

We have begun our individual College & Career Readiness conferences with all 8th grade students and their parents.  These meetings will be scheduled through November. Please go to http://sfjhs.nebo.edu/ - click on Counseling Center, and then click on the Online Scheduler. You will need your student’s ID (lunch) number and the password: lobos to schedule an appointment. Please contact the counseling office at 801-798-4081 if you need any assistance with this.  We value parent participation in these meetings and hope you'll be able to come!

 Serving Detentions

Have you been tardy and received a detention notice? Have you served it yet? Remember that in order to qualify for many of the upcoming SFJHS activities and avoid truancy problems, tardies need to be made up by serving detention time. Students can serve detention immediately after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Library.
