Parents, Students and Friends –
SCHOOL BEGINS NEXT WEEK
The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 21st. Please note that the first bell rings at 7:55am and classes will begin promptly at 8:00am. Also be aware that early out is 1:55pm on Mondays in order to allow for teacher collaboration meetings. Tuesdays through Fridays the school day will be from 8:00am to 2:40pm.
7TH GRADE DAY AND SFJHS OPEN HOUSE - MONDAY, AUGUST 20TH
All 7th graders and their parents are invited to attend 7th Grade Orientation on Monday, August 20th from 9:00-11:00am. 7th graders will have the opportunity to attend an orientation assembly, go to each of their classes, meet their teachers and practice opening their lockers. Busing will not be provided so please plan your own transportation as needed. Later that same day from 1:00-3:00pm there will be an Open House for students of all grades and their parents/guardians. Teachers will be in their rooms and available to answer any questions you may have.
IMMUNIZATION CLINIC!
If you have not completed immunizations on your children OF ANY AGE, the Utah County Health Department will be in our cafeteria from 1:00pm to 4:00pm on Monday, August 20th to take care of any immunization needs you have. To attend the 7th grade in Utah a student must have proof of receiving the Meningococcal vaccine and the Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis (Tdap) booster. Your student will not be able to attend 7th grade without the school having this information on file. Parents are asked to bring in or mail in a copy of the immunization document from the Health Department or doctor’s office as proof of required vaccinations.
BE A PART OF PTA THIS YEAR
Come to the PTA table during the SFJHS 7th Grade Orientation and Open House on August 20th! Sign-ups will be available for various committees but if you aren't able to donate your time to a committee, your contribution of $5 cash, check (payable to SFJHS PTA), or by Venmo at SFJHS PTA is a great help in our efforts to enhance the experiences of students and staff at SFJHS. We are also looking for a PTA member willing to coordinate our SPRING FUNDRAISER this coming year. If interested, please see us at the PTA table or email us at sfjhspta [at] gmail.com.
SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL
We are in need of 3 parents to serve on the Spanish Fork Junior High School Community Council. If you would be willing to serve on this committee, please email Blake Mortensen at blake.mortensen [at] nebo.edu (blake[dot]mortensen[at]nebo[dot]edu) before Friday, August 17th at 4:00 pm. Elections will be held during 7th grade day and during our Open House on Monday, August 20th and will end on Friday, August 31st, 2018 at the end of school. Please stop by the front office to vote. Thanks for all your help. The council meeting schedule is currently the first Monday of the month at 12:00 noon.

COURSE NAMES
We have several classes taught at our school with a different name than the state code name that will show up on your schedule. This means that a student will have the right class, but it is different on the schedule. Please take note of the following name differences:
FACS Exploration C= 7th Grade Clothing and Interior Design
FACS Exploration F= 7th Grade Foods, Nutrition & Child Care
Foreign Language Exploratory= Introduction to American Sign Language (7th grade)
Music Appreciation= Rock 'n' Roll History
Participation Skills= 9th Grade PE

CLASS CHANGES
Counseling will make class changes for mandated placement issues only from August 16 forward.
FREE/REDUCED LUNCH
Applications for free/reduced school lunch must be completed online. To apply for free or reduced lunch visit the Nebo District - Parent Home Page https://www.nebo.edu/parents and click on “Free & Reduced Lunch Information”. Please do this as soon as possible so your student can receive free/reduced lunch on the first day.
GOLF TEAM INFORMATION MEETING
Do you know how to play golf and love it? If you have golf experience and are interested in playing competitively, attend the information meeting on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22 after school in the cafeteria. More information about tryouts will be given at this meeting.
