Parents, Students and Friends -

Just because you may find it interesting, here is a little information about our school this year.  We currently have 45 teachers, 4 counselors, and approximately 38 other support staff including administration, secretarial, library, classroom technicians, lunch and custodial staff.  We appreciate everyone’s efforts to help the students of SFJHS achieve high levels of success.  The student enrollment of SFJHS is... 7th grade students - 364, 8th grade students - 385, 9th grade students - 343, for a total enrollment as of today of 1092.

4-H After School Clubs
Sign-ups begin tomorrow, Thursday, August 28th at 7:30a.m. - Find the table set up in front of the main office.  Enrollment forms are also available on our school website at http://sfjhs.nebo.edu/content/4h or in the front office. Clubs will begin on September 2nd; they start immediately after school in room 20. The clubs offered will change every month. Our September Clubs are Sports Club and Sewing Club. The cost is $10.00 for the first club and then $5.00 for any other club you sign up for throughout the school year.

Join Cross Country!
Every student is welcome and encouraged to compete for our school on the cross country team.  The first practice begins tomorrow at 3:00p.m.  Our first meet is next week at Payson where we will compete against all the junior high schools in our district.  Cross country meets will be held each Friday at 3:30p.m. through October 14th and last about 40 minutes.  Practices will be every day at 3:00p.m. and last approx. 45 minutes.  Cross Country is a great way to get in shape for other sports.  Coaches will work with students that have other practices during the week and will allow them to compete in meets while missing practices for other activities when needed.

Intramurals
Please consider this your official invitation to come participate in the SFJHS intramurals program. Intramurals will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year, rotating the sport played every 2-3 weeks.  Our first sport will be flag football and it will begin on Tuesday, September 9th. Games begin as soon as possible each day after school.  Those who want to participate in flag football need to stop by Coach Beardall's room (31) to sign-up. We encourage all students to be involved in this extracurricular program.  Research has shown that students who are involved in extracurricular programs are more likely to have a higher G.P.A., a stronger sense of self and greater feelings of belonging with their peers.  We believe there are many benefits for students who participate, the best one being they have a lot of fun!

Aspire/SIS (check your student’s grades)
Nebo School District provides parental access to student’s grades, school work, citizenship and attendance through the online database called Aspire.  Aspire is a valuable tool for both parents and students.  You can check your student’s grades, attendance and citizenship marks.  If you click on the class name you are able to see individual assignments and scores.  We encourage all parents and students to use Aspire on a regular basis to stay informed. Because Aspire is web based, it can be accessed anywhere by following this link - https://sisweb.nebo.edu/Login/ or by clicking on the SIS Grades/Attendance link under the Parents tab on the district website. If you have never used Aspire before signing up for an account is fast and simple. Just follow the link and click “request a user name” below the login box. You will need to have your student’s ID number (lunch number) and birthday to create a parent/guardian account.

It’s not too late - if you would like to join PTA simply email Gaye Christiansen at gayechristiansen [at] gmail.com (gayechristiansen[at]gmail[dot]com) and she will help you find out how you can be involved and how to join. The cost this year will be $5.00.
