Parents, Students and Friends –

SFJHS has a belief that all students, faculty and staff belong to a community. In our community we practice the Lobo Way. That is, we strengthen the pack, learn to learn, forgive and accept, and find our voice. Throughout the school year and in all that we do we will learn about and practice each of these beliefs. The first belief is we will strengthen the pack. This means we will positively contribute to our classes, our school, and our community. We will see the good in others and build confidence, and we will respect and encourage individual strengths.

This afternoon I watched a group of friends at lunch out on the lawn. A girl came out of our building with a bit of anxiety about some boys who were squeaking their shoes in the hall during lunch. The noise hurt her sensitive ears and she was angry that the boys would be so loud. She had a hard time expressing her feelings about it, but the group listened to her as they were genuinely interested in helping. They could have ignored this girl, but they didn’t…they listened until an adult came by to help their new friend. This group of friends positively contributed to their school by just listening. The girl was able to regain her composure and left to her classroom happy. Our motto, by Rudyard Kipling, says. “For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.” There was a great deal of strength in the small act of listening today.

SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL NOMINATIONS
Every public school has a school community council consisting of the principal, elected school employees and parents. Parent input is important in the decisions made by our council. School Community Council (SCC) needs THREE PARENT NOMINATIONS to be on the council this school year. If you are interested in serving on the SJHS SCC, email Mr. Blake Mortensen at blake.mortensen [at] nebo.edu (blake[dot]mortensen[at]nebo[dot]edu).
