Lobos Continue to Impress with Win versus Payson

Submitted by david.thacker on

After a win against the Knights of Springville, our Lobos continued their winning streak with a victory over the Payson Grizzlies.  This game was a good test for our team and helped us prepare for the Nebo end of season tournament.

After watching several of the 9th grade boys’ basketball games, it is obvious that we get off to slow starts.  As a result, we often have to overcome an early deficit.  At the end of the second half we usually have a small lead.  This game followed the same pattern.  Payson started fast, but fizzled out right before halftime, allowing the Lobos to take a slim lead.

It is also noticeable that the boys play much better in the second half of games.  As they did against Springville, the Lobos dominated the second half.  They jumped out to a lead of twenty plus points.  After several small runs the Grizzlies were able to come within four points.  Payson used their physically frustrating defense to get back into the game.

Not surprisingly, our boys were able to hold on to the lead and win the game by seven points.  This was definitely a confidence boosting win for the Lobos before their much anticipated Nebo tournament!  We wish Coach Beardall and his team the best of luck for their upcoming tournament! Great job boys!
