Our very own Mr. Anson recently taught teachers from all over the state of Utah at the annual UCTE/LA Conference help in Salt Lake City.

“Each break-out session was planned for 50 participants. I counted more than 60. I ran out of chairs and handouts,” Mr. Anson explained when interviewed by a reporter from The Lobo Howl. After submitting a proposal to the UCTE/LA board to give a presentation, Mr. Anson was accepted and three times presented, “Revision: Getting Students to Go Beyond Spell-Check,” to many teachers. Judging from his attendance, it was a very successful presentation.

If you are wondering what UCTE/LA stands for, don’t worry, you aren’t the only one! The UCTE/LA stands for Utah Council of Teachers of English/ Language Arts. Now, you’re probably wondering, “What are they for?” Once again, don’t worry! A reporter from The Lobo Howl thought the same thing. The UCTE/LA is a council for teachers that provides a professional organization for English teachers in Utah. It's affiliated with the National Council of Teachers of English. They help teachers establish and share better practices for the teaching of writing and reading (literacy). Hopefully that clears up a few things for you.

Mr. Anson had a great time preparing and teaching this class. “It was an interactive presentation where teachers wrote and revised for themselves using the methods I presented,” is how he explained the procedure.  He used an article he’d written in 2009 titled, “How Can I Know What I Think Until I See [and Hear] What I Say?—Getting Students to Start Taking Responsibility for Their Own Writing Through Oral Revision.” This was the research for his presentation.

Mr. Anson did a great job and received good responses and feedback from teachers that participated in and listened to his presentation. Good job Mr. Anson and thank you for representing our school!
