National Junior Honor Society

“Students can make a difference in the world. Every year, thousands if not millions of American teenagers engage in meaningful service projects in their schools and communities. While there are many who might belittle the roles these students take, the evidence is clear - students today care enough to give of their time and their resources to improve the world around them. The proof is not difficult to find.”  These students are part of the National Junior Honor Society.

The proof of caring students is evident at the Spanish Fork Jr. High School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. This amazing group of students went without much notice or acclaim this year and it is time they received some recognition.

The Junior Honor Society planned a fun “Red-Ribbon” week in October with the help of Mr. Beardall who is the school’s health teacher.  Next, the group organized the annual Christmas fund-raiser to help students in our school have a proper Christmas.  Members were also asked to escort members of the military to the Veterans Day assembly, guide the visiting sixth-grade students on a tour around the school, and participate in several other duties of service.  The society’s last service activity was to spend a cold-windy day cleaning up the campus after our long cold winter making it look clean for the coming spring.  “It was so fun and it built friendships working hard all day together,” said Lauren Mockett, a second year member.

Camry Young, the secretary officer this year, said, “The most memorable part of NJHS is that you are surrounded by people with the same values as you.  We all love to serve and be a positive influence on our community.” Macie Nielsen said “You might be a NJHS member if you are honest, happy, and willing to help.”  All of these students will live exceptional lives as they continue on the path they have walked this year.  Thank you all very much!

According to the official website for the National Honor Society, “The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage good citizenship in the students of secondary schools.” If you care about your community, have a desire to serve, and want to make lasting connections with people who share similar values, you can be a member of the National Junior Honor Society.
