Spanish Fork Junior High art teacher David Millman’s painiting of Abraham Lincoln, backed by the American flag and the Declaration of Independence, was recently acquired by the Nebo School District.  It hangs in the District Office Building on the lower level, on the west side of the building near the HR offices (see photo).

One of eight paintings he’s completed, all based on patriotic themes, Millman’s work came to the districts attention earlier this year.

When asked what inspired him to paint Lincoln, Millman said he’s always wanted to do  a series of based on American history.  This particular piece was a collaborative design between him and his former manager.  Twelve painting are planned for the series.

Spanish Fork students, parents, and faculty often get to see Millman’s finished works as well as those he is currently working on.  During our annual Veteran’s Day assembly, Millman’s larger works have adorned the stage and school entry ways.  He has shared prints of his drawings with faculty and staff during the holidays.  And each year, as fourth term rolls around, the foyer of the school displays many of his, and his students, famous “packing tape” sculptures ethereally floating in mid-air.

Mr. Millman paints mostly in acrylics and oils, though he does love to do watercolors.  He sells his paintings privately and does commission work.

Congratulations and best wishes for your continued success, Mr. Millman.  SFJH is privileged to have you on its faculty.
