Heather Mendonsa, a science teacher at Spanish Fork Jr. High, was recently spotlighted in the Nebo EdTech Newsletter.  Ms. Mendonsa was featured for the innovative ways she’s using the technology available in Nebo District to help students learn.

Ms. Mendonsa explained, “I have started using Mastery Paths in Canvas and I am excited about where this program can take my class. It has changed my planning and differentiation in great ways.”

“First, I gave a pretest to my classes and divided it into specific topics,” continued Ms. Mendonsa.  “Based on their results, Canvas automatically assigned remedial lessons to those who needed it, focused on vocabulary and repetition for my ELL students, and gave more in-depth opportunities to those who are already at mastery. At this point, I am using Mastery Paths during class about twice a week. I have found that the students are happier because they are getting the information they need at their own pace.”

Innovation and best practices set great teachers apart from the rest.  SFJH is fortunate to have Ms. Mendonsa on the faculty team, helping students succeed.  “I'm excited to see where this is going in the next few years,” she said.  We are too.
