Last week Mrs. Freeze's seventh-grade English classes compared the writing process to building a train set (and of course, they actually got to play with trains!).

Some of their comparisons were, "Writing is like building a train set because you can change one piece, or one word in your sentence, and it can totally change the direction," and "Writing is like a train set because you can all get the same pieces and end up with a completely different track depending on what you want to create. When you write, you can create something unique even if you have the same topic as somebody else."

Comparing things—especially seemingly unlike things, is a great way to strengthen critical thinking skills.

Editor’s Note:  Mrs. Freeze recently came to us from Payson High.  SFJH is excited to have her here.
