Trumpets, trombones, clarinets, flutes, tubas, euphoniums, french horns, and percussion. The Spanish Fork Junior High School Concert Band is practicing for their Spring Concert. They are playing songs like “DarkHeart” which is actually a piece of music based off a book. The book is called “Dark Adventure” which is a fictional book which includes much magic. “DarkHeart” is supposed to be part of a scene where the main character is running away from the castle. According to Max Fraser, 9th grade Concert Band percussionist, “It’s really challenging, but is a fun piece. I like the style of the music; it’s kind of creepy, but it’s also really fast-paced.”

The band is also performing a piece called “Resplendent Light (On Walden Pond)” which is a slow touching piece. According to Enoch Sanchez, 8th grade trombonist, “The piece portrays how we as a group can help better ourselves so we may better others. When we have accomplished this, we may finally see the beauty in nature and in everyday life and reach what I like to call, ‘Resplendent Light’.” I couldn’t have described it any better myself.

“The Great Locomotive Chase” is, in my opinion, our best piece. It contains many percussion instruments. You will find chimes, bells, drums, timpani,  and even the rim of an actual train. I can’t really describe to you how they all sound. The percussion music is supposed to have sounds that sound as though they would be on or near a train.  While the percussion is doing that, the entire rest of the band is making the piece flow together, have meaning, and really does everything else.

The band has been working very hard on these songs and pieces. They play every single day trying to work out every single mistake. If you would like to see the Spring Concert they will be performing at Spanish Fork High School, on Thursday, May 17.
