Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week had its kick off with an amazing assembly at Spanish Fork Junior High School Monday sponsored by the counseling department and the school’s National Junior Honor Society.   The assembly promoted a healthy lifestyle with members from Brigham Young University’s athletic department and a student-produced commercial highlighting the down-side of drugs at school.

B.Y.U. student athletes Richard Wilson, of Spanish Fork,  and Taryn Toolson, of Alpine, talked to the students about their personal experiences of friends who chose not to live a healthy lifestyle and how they promised themselves that they would never do drugs or tobacco long before they were exposed to them by friends.  It has paid off for them as athletes enabling them to go on to the next level of competition at the college level.

The Junior Honor Society made a commercial to highlight the hazards of drugs at school.  Featured in the commercial were Josh Cowley, Jeremy Thacker, Mr. Morgan, Mr. Huff, spies, and members of the Junior Honor Society and the Student Council.  The commercial was filmed and produced by Nate Christiansen.

Principal Robert Fleming gave awards to students who demonstrate 212 degrees of effort at Spanish Fork Junior High.   Awards were given to Katelyn Gallacher, eight-grade, for going out of her way to help others with a cheerful attitude.  Lily Beaman, seventh-grade, who does great work and is willing to help others.  Jackson Frame, ninth-grade, is so full of school spirit and enthusiasm and is a good kid and student.  Israel Prestwich, eighth-grade, for his respectful manner and conscientious attitude on his school work.  Congratulations to these students who represent our school so well!

Thank you Junior Honor Society and Ms. Nicole Wenczel for their hard work and effort!
