You make the game what you make it,” is what Lexi Van Tassell, number 40, said about soccer when she was interviewed by The Lobo Howl.  She plays left center defender for the Salem Hills High School girls’ soccer team.

She has been playing soccer since she was in kindergarten and loves it because she feels free.  A while back she had to make a decision either to continue in dance or to play soccer.  She chose soccer for this reason, “In dance you're forced to do something, but in soccer you make the game what you want to.  You can make your own moves.”

Lexi's hero is Abby Wambach who plays striker on the USA Women's Soccer Team.  The Lobo Howl also interviewed Paige Robins, number 2, who is a striker on the SHHS soccer team and asked her who her hero was.  She said Mia Hamm, a striker on the USA Women's Soccer Team.  If Paige and/or Lexi were to go professional, they said that they would both want to be on the USA Women's Soccer Team.

The SHHS soccer team practices everyday for two and a half hours.  They have games on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Occasionally, they have games on Saturdays.  They even practice on holidays!  On Fridays, they have an activity they call “Fun Friday.”  For every game they win, they get 15 minutes of “fun points.”  That is how much free time they get during practice.

When the SHHS soccer team wins a game, it is usually a one to two point difference.  It was commented that this year's team is better than last year's.  They are fourth in their region for high school soccer.

Look for the scores from their September 20 and 22 games, where they will play Provo and Springville respectively, in The Lobo Howls next issue.  Good luck girls!
