This month the Lobo Howl decided to spotlight our advisor (slave driver) Mrs. Nielsen.  We tracked her down and made her suffer through an interview.  Here’s what we found out.

“I’m a California girl, born and raised in So Cal,” said Mrs. Nielsen. “I was very surprised when I heard the news that I was the teacher feature.”

When asked how long she’s been teaching, she replied, “I’m starting my 5th year at Spanish Fork Junior High.”  And no, she hasn’t always been an English teacher.  She was a mom first.  Mrs. Nielsen didn’t go back to school till her youngest child was in second grade.  “I have always loved English,” she said, so she thought it would be a good idea to teach it. “I really like teaching at the junior high level,” she said.  In fact, she loves it, especially teasing the little seventh graders.

Here are some interesting things about Mrs. Nielsen.

She learned to surf when she was 5 years old.  Her dad made up her first name. She has raised 5 boys and 1 girl.  She also has 6 grandchildren.  In 2004 she received her degree in English Literature from Cal State San Bernardino.  She thinks it’s kind of funny that she graduated from collage the same year her oldest son did.

She used to live in California but in 2003 her house burned down in a California wild fire.  She and her family moved to Utah in 2005.

“I like to write, garden, cook, paint, and sew,” she told the Howl.  When she’s older she would like to write novels.

Other fun facts about Mrs. Nielsen are her favorite color is purple, she hates liver, but has eaten snails before.  She really likes Thai food and dark chocolate.   She likes classic rock and roll, and her favorite song is “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas.
