SFHS Dons Dominate at Swimming Finals

The Spanish Fork Dons won the regional swim meet. By placing first or second at regions, many of the swimmers qualified for the State Finals.

Qualifying team members were:  Amber Dowling JR, Chet Oxborrow SR, McKay Lewis SR, Colten Christensen JR, Vance Oxborrow JR, Jace Parkinson JR, Natalie Parkinson SR, Emily Winsor JR, Konlin Gappmayer JR, Zack Slaymaker SR, McLane Beckstead JR, Jairus Pace SR, Adam Hunter SR.

The State Finals were held on February 8th and 9th,  2013 at the BYU aquatic center.

Over all, the men’s team took 8th with 125 points. The top scorer for the Dons was Colten Christensen with 34. He took second in both the 200 free and the 500 free, even though he was seeded 5th in the 500!  He dropped 3 seconds on his 200, which brought his time down to 1:47.35.  Additionally, Christensen cut 10 seconds from his 500 which brought his time down to an astounding 4:54.55.

To achieve a place on the Academic All-State team, male swimmers need a 3.998 grade point average, while female swimmers need a 3.981 GPA.   Five Dons achieved this honor:

Chet Oxborrow, Jairus Pace, McKay Lewis, Zack Slaymaker, and Natalie Parkinson.

Congratulations to the Spanish Fork High swim team.  Your seven returning juniors are likely to make waves at next year’s tournament.
