SFJH Students Weigh In On Clean Air Debate

The Spanish Fork Junior High Debate team has just finished up their 2014-2015 season.  Two teams qualified to compete in the state meet held at Copper Hills High School in West Jordan on April 23, 2015:  Tiffany Chan and Rachel Cahill, and Max Hansen and Luke Jensen.

Luke and Max qualified by competing in the Nebo Invitational Tournament where Luke won a speaker award.  Tiffany and Rachel competed in two meets during spring break, one at Rowland Hall in Salt Lake City, and another at Bingham High.  The team tied for a 6th place speaker award at the Bingham meet.

The meet on April 23 brought together teams from across the state of Utah.  This year’s resolution, “The Utah state government should establish policies and/or programs to substantially improve Utah’s air quality,” provided students the opportunity to research a myriad of plans to improve the air quality in the state.  Teams competed in four rounds, sometimes presenting the affirmative case, sometimes the negative.  While neither team placed at state, they represented Spanish Fork Junior High respectably.

This year’s team members include:  Tiffany Chan, Rachel Cahill, Luke Jensen, Max Hansen, Lauren Ethingtin, Savannah Loreen, Anika Kloepher, and Aiden Sanchez.
