We are proud to honor our veterans here at Spanish Fork Junior High.  This is the third year we’ve celebrated Veteran’s Day at our school.  Mrs. Provstgarrd has taken the job of organizing this assembly on herself as a way to pay tribute to her father, James Box.

“I just have to give respect to the men and women who have done so much for our country,” she told the Lobo Howl.  She has veteran in her family besides just her dad.  For the assembly, she invited three special guests to come speak to us, Jim Terrio from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Peggy Morrell from the motorcycle group Patriot Riders, and Nick Pray who served in Afghanistan and used to go to school here at SFJH.

Jim Terrio who is over Utah Veterans Foreign War says, “Every person who has served in the Army or wars is a hero.  We all have an important set of values and they are starting to come in now.  Turn to you moms and dads and say, ‘you’re my hero’.  We shall respect all people.  Veterans need to know that we still respect all people who have served.”  He also shared an interesting fact:  Veterans day was called Armistice Day before it became Veterans Day.

Peggy Morrell talked about how Patriot Riders honors fallen soldier.  She said, “On a cold day in Salem, Utah, 10 nieces and nephews got a teddy bear to remember their uncle who had passed away in the war.”

Nick Pray showed us slides when he was in Afghanistan.  His pictures showed that Afghanistan is similar to Utah.

Nick Pray says, “Do what must be done”.

To wrap up this Veterans Day assembly, we are very proud to honor our Veterans and all the people who have served in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard.
