7th Graders Consider Careers
Counselors met with all the seventh graders today on Thursday to go over their registration for next year. As an added bonus, students received a quick presentation about College and Career Readiness.
Counselors discussed the benefits of researching careers that they may be interested in and finding out how much education that career would need. Seventh graders learned about several different options for post high school education.
It's never too early to talk to your child about their interests or how to turn those interests into a career for life.
Let’s Review—A Great Year So Far!
First semester goes out with a BANG with so much memorable and fun stuff to look back on.
Starting at the beginning of the year, we had our Shakespeare team competitions, and they did GREAT! Not long after that, we had Fall Break, which I think everyone can agree was awesome!
Following Fall Break, we had Red Ribbon Week, and we all teamed up against drugs and had a fun-filled week with activities and assemblies. Not long after we had our Fall Carnival/Dance, which was awesome! We had a ton of people show up and a great night filled with dancing and laughter.
Beginning Orchestra Goes Recruiting
Exciting things are happening in the Beginning Orchestra at Spanish Fork Junior High! The Beginning Orchestra has worked very hard on many songs, and now they got to show off their skills.
HOPE Week Assembly
During HOPE Week, we had a speaker come and speak to us. His name is Dustin Smith.
He talked to us about focusing on lifting our eyes. “Eyes up. Do the work.” This means literally lifting your eyes by looking up. Along with looking up, you also are looking for ways people need help and are in need.
Hope Week Round-Up
January 13-17 was HOPE Week. It is a week hosted by our school’s HOPE Squad focused on what they stand for which is suicide prevention and anti-bullying. During the week, students participated in fun challenges, like White-Out Monday and Wear Your Favorite Team’s Jersey Tuesday.
Mr. Whiting’s Class Zoo
At the beginning of the school year, students walked into Mr. Whiting's classroom and were impressed by his two ball pythons. And now, almost six months later, we will be getting two new additions to his classroom zoo.
Mr. Whiting has found a female snake to breed with his male one. On Saturday, January 4th, his snakes tail’s had a link, which means that they are ready to breed. And he will give the 9-14 hatchlings that he expects to hatch to some of his students!
The End of Winter Break
On Thursday, January 2, 2020, the students of Spanish Fork Junior High School got back from their winter break. After having a week and a half of no school, the students had to go back to learning. It’s sad to say goodbye to the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season. Some people are ready to learn and have many exciting experiences in the building while others are not as excited to be back.

Name That Sonnet
Ms. Christensen’s ninth grade English classes played a game this week called Name That Sonnet! Using Erik Didriksen’s book, Pop Sonnets: Shakespearean Spins on Your Favorite Songs, students did their best to identify modern-day lyrics rewritten in coded iambic pentameter.
With the fever of a frenzied game show contestant playing for thousands of dollars, each of Ms. Christensen’s students concentrated as she read the displayed writing on the screen then called out, jumped, or cheered when they could identify the correct title.
