Parents, Students, and Friends –

Welcome to Term 2 and good job completing the first term! Thank you to all of the students who work very hard to complete coursework and master their content. Thanks to all of the teachers who put in hours upon hours of preparation time, teaching time, re-teaching and intervention time so students are proficient and ready for the next level of instruction. And, a huge thank you to parents and guardians who support their children and support our school! Way to Strengthen the Pack!

RED RIBBON WEEK

DID YOU KNOW children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don't, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. This is Red Ribbon Week at SFJH, an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States. The 2017 theme is, “Your future is key, so stay drug free.” We will have themed days throughout the week along with information and lessons on how to stay drug free.

Monday: Wear Red Day – Pledge to be drug free.

Tuesday: Halloween Costumes – Scare away drugs.

Make sure the costume is school appropriate, no face paint, weapons, masks, or hats/hoods that cover the face. Also, some classes are sharing candy during class. If candy is brought to school, make sure it is purchased at the store and individually wrapped. We have many students who have peanut/nut allergies in the school. Please consider this when purchasing any candy your child may bring. Thank you.

Wednesday: Hat Day – Hats off to good choices.

Thursday: Pajama Day – Follow your dreams, say no to drugs! School appropriate pajamas only.

Friday: Team Jersey/Shirt Day.

NETSMARTZ ASSEMBLY

Our Netsmartz assembly is scheduled for this Wednesday, November 1st.  From the website, “NetSmartz Workshop is an interactive, educational program of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) that provides age-appropriate resources to help teach children how to be safer on- and offline.” For more information, check out the website at https://www.netsmartz.org/Home where you will find many resources, tips, and discussion starters to talk with your children about internet safety.

CALL FOR VETERANS’ PHOTOS

Friday, November 10, 2017 will be our annual Spanish Fork Junior High Veteran’s Day assembly. We would love to extend an invitation to all our students’ family members who have served, and who are currently serving in the Armed Forces to please join us for this assembly. We will also be asking your students to dress up that day to show respect for our military men and women.

Schedule will go as follows:

1st Assembly 8:50 -9:50 am.

2nd Assembly 9:55-10:55 am.

We will be preparing a slide show for this assembly and would love to have our SFJH families send in pictures of any loved ones who have served or who may be currently serving in the United States military. Please send them to becky.provstgaard [at] nebo.edu (becky[dot]provstgaard[at]nebo[dot]edu). Feel free to take a picture of a photo with your cell phone and send it to Mrs. Provstgaard’s e-mail. Thank you for your support!
