Basketball

Spanish Fork Jr. High
9th grade boy’s basketball
All 9th grade boys and their Parents:
The 2009-2010 basketball season is just around the corner. We are excited about the amount of interest and chance to work with you this year. Before the season starts there are a couple of items that you need to be aware of.
TRYOUTS
This year tryouts for the team will run from Nov. 9th-12th. We will begin at 2:45 and be finished by 5:15 every day. Tryouts will be held in the boy’s gym at the Jr. High, please don’t be late. During tryouts we will be making two (2) cut lists depending on the amount of participation. Everyone will have two days before the first cut is made. We will select the final 10-12 players on the 12th on November.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION
I have enclosed a tryout/Checklist with this letter that needs to be complete by every boy and their parents. Pay special attention to item three (3) on the checklist. You will need to have a physical exam if you make the team. If your son has had a physical for another team, scouts, or within the last year they do not need another one.   Please complete this packet and return it to Coach Syme or Coach Morgan before Thurs. Nov. 5th .You will not be allowed to tryout if I don’t have your packet!
Attendance at tryouts is mandatory for those interested in participating.   Please adjust your schedules to plan on attending each day of tryouts. I have also included a season game schedule. If you will not be able to participate in the games please let us know before hand. The basketball season will run from Nov 9th to Feb 13th. The coaches will let players know about holiday practices as soon as possible

Coach Syme and Coach Morgan are excited about this year and the prospects of having a great team. I’ve personally heard a lot of good things. This does not mean that I know who is going to make the team. Everyone will have to prove to me that you have what it takes to play high school basketball. You will have to work you guts out to prove it.

WHAT CAN I DO TO PREPARE FOR TRYOUTS
Listed below are some suggestions from the coaches for things every boy can do to help their chances of being ready for tryouts: Tryouts will be around Nov. 9th
1.       Get in Shape. During tryouts we will be looking for boys who have put an effort into conditioning themselves. Tryouts will involve a lot of work and running! Be in shape or you will be in pain
2.       Strength. During tryouts we will also be looking for those who have the endurance and strength to participate in practices and games(tougher, stronger, grittier and better defender than the next guy). Strength training is a great way to build endurance. Open weight room will be available after school on. Tuesday and Thursday. Also, come and ask coach Syme about programs that will help your endurance.
3.       Open gym. Playing basketball is necessary to help you have less stress during tryouts. We will have the gym open on for those who want to come and work on shooting, FOUL SHOTS, LAYUPS, AND DRIBBLING: On Tuesday and Thursday
4.       Intramurals. Will start 3 weeks before try-outs. Sign-up will be with the P.E. teachers.
