It has been a busy month for SFJHS Fine Arts Department! Keeping up with the these teachers and students is a full time job around here! We have seen the wonderful musical, She Loves Me, from Miss Holley and her acting and technical crews, and concerts by Mr. Kavenaugh's choirs. Mrs. Olsen's and Mrs. Harman's orchestras and Miss Johnson's bands have graced us with beautiful melodies! All have been great performances by many talented and dedicated students. 

Spanish Fork Junior High School recently had a band concert this last Wednesday, December 19th. The concert took place in the Spanish Fork High School auditorium. The one hour band concert was directed by Ms. Bridgett Johnson. If you were not feeling the holiday spirit before the concert you sure were after! The music was full of holiday cheer. It was cold outside but, when you heard the music, you were warmed up by the festive music. You could tell that our school’s band worked very hard on these amazing songs.

PENNY WARS

This year’s fundraiser was very successful and our students really stepped up.  Wow, our students raised over $2,200. Thank you for supporting this project and encouraging students to participate.  We will present Nebo Credit Union Warm The Soles Program with the money on Friday. Warm The Soles donates thousands of pairs of shoes to Nebo students in need every year.  Thanks to the organizers of this event, the teachers, and especially our generous students!

Spanish Fork Junior High is known for having a superb Drama department.  Every year in the spring, the community is treated to wonderful musicals where student talent shines.

Mrs. Harmer’s 9th grade world civilizations classes built a trench, were issued rations, and wrote letters home as if they were soldiers during World War 1 after learning about trench warfare.

They also learned about harsh conditions, diseases, and other hardships of trench life.

The 7th grade College and Career Awareness classes got to learn about career internships today. Junior and seniors from all 5 Nebo School District high schools came to present about the experiences they had doing internships in the district Work Based Learning class. Some of the internships that we learned about include:  physical therapists, teachers, police officers, animal rehabilitation, nurses, dental assistants, lawyers, and travel agents. 

Last week at SFJHS we had Penny Wars. Penny Wars is a competition between all the classes. All the money raised goes to Warm the Soles which gives shoes to children in need. Each day of the week, we had different challenges. For example, on Monday it was highest nickel count and on Thursday it was the lowest penny count. Although, there was a catch, you were able to penny bomb people! This is when you get a lot of pennies and go put them in a different classes jar. One teacher even bombed Coach Carlson’s class with 25 dollars worth of pennies. That's a lot of pennies!

Andrew Bernards, an eighth-grade student at Spanish Fork Jr. High, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on December 14, 2018.  With this win comes a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship.
