It’s time again for the Annual SFJHS Zombie Haiku Contest!
October 16-30, 2017
All students and teachers are invited to dust off their post-mortem poetry skills and enter our contest regarding corpses. There will be prizes for each grade level.
Rules:
- Entries must fit the haiku format.
- All entries must be your original work.
- One entry per person is allowed.
- Place your name, grade, and English teacher’s name on the back of your submission.

REGENTS SCHOLARSHIP CHANGES

The US often leads the way when it comes to innovation and exporting foods and products uniquely American.  But that hasn’t always been the case, as Ms. Harmers 8th grade US history student recent discovered.

Ms. Goates and Mr. Hallam’s 9th grad Bio classes have been learning about the structure of animal and plant cells. Over the past few weeks, students have been creating cell models from materials they find at home and bringing them to school to show their understanding.

However, today students took students put their knowledge on public display in the form of chalk drawings on the sidewalks outside Spanish Fork Junior High.

Michael Jordan once said, “You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.”  Students in Mr. Johnson weight training/body conditioning class are learning that if you set goals, expect something of yourself, success follows.

This past week has seen classes competing in many areas including arm wrestling, leg wrestling, bench press, shuttle runs, standing and running long jumps, as well as many others skills. “All class members competed well and had a great time,” said Coach Johnson.

Teachers are creative people!  They need to be to keep students engaged while learning.  Creative learning strategies help students form stronger connections which leads to better understanding.  Plus—it’s more fun for everyone.

Mrs. Phillips is an extremely creative teacher.  Recently, her class explored the science of motion through Marble Painting.

Wednesday's after school art club was a great success this week. Students began learning paper mache techniques to create Halloween pumpkins and shrunken heads. The clubs provide an after school snack and then students went to work creating the first part of their project. Can't wait to see the finished pieces!

Early Morning Basketball open gym for 9TH GRADE BOYS will be at 6am beginning this Thursday, October 5th and continuing every Tuesday and Thursday until tryouts.
