Math Problem of the Week

Submitted by david.thacker on

When Peter and Bill ran a 100-meter race, Peter won by five meters.  To give Bill a chance to win, they raced again, but this time Peter started five meters behind the starting line.  Each boy ran the race at the same speed as in the first race.  What were the results of the second race?

Golf Tryouts

Submitted by david.thacker on

Thirty students were out on the links yesterday afternoon trying their very best to become part of what will be an 8-person team. It was a beautiful day and perfect conditions for golf! Thanks to Coach Hansen and the SF Dons Golf Team for all the help getting the golfers through the course.

Biology Students Make GIANT Discovery

Submitted by david.thacker on

Mrs. Goates, seventh-grade science teacher extraordinaire, is now teaching Biology at SFJH.  And as usual, her ninth-grade students are already having some extraordinary scientific adventures.

Mrs. Goats reported, “On the first day of school, my biology classes went on a scavenger hunt to see which biological processes they could already recognize outside. We made some great discoveries including this GIANT caterpillar.”

Awesome stuff, Mrs. Goates!  Stay tuned, SFJH parents.  Who knows what else these students will discover.

School has started, but we don’t want to give up on summer just yet.  So Spanish Fork Junior High is sponsoring a swim party on Friday September 1st from 3:30 PM until 6:00PM at the Spanish Fork High School Pool.

This the back to school swim party is for all SFJH students and their families as well as the faculty and their families.

The cost is $1 per person.  Just let them know you are with SFJHS.

So grab your suit and sunscreen!  We’ll see you at the pool.

Thinking Like A Scientist

Submitted by david.thacker on

Today in Mr. Whiting’s Science 7 classes, students were “thinking like a scientist” as they performed an experiment testing the buoyancy of various objects. Using the scientific method, students had to hypothesize whether the object would float or sink, test by placing objects into water, record their findings, and draw a conclusion about the level to which objects floated or sunk.

Mr. Whiting created an interactive lab for students to examine and learn the scientific method that his classes will use all year as they “think like a scientist”!

Three Cheers for Us!

Submitted by david.thacker on
Spanish Fork Junior High has just hit a new high in the number of followers of our Facebook Page--887! Congrats and thank you to all our new followers.  We appreciate your interest in our school.   But we still are a bit short of our goal.  The District has given us the challenge to have 1350 followers--approximately the same number as our school student population.  And we need to do this before Parent Teacher Conference in September.
