Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month started as a week-long celebration in 1968 and expanded to a month by President Reagan. Every year from September 15 to October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated in the United States.

This year our Spanish classes kicked off the celebrations by learning about the United States and Mexico. We learned about our history.  Today, September 16th Mexico Celebrates their independence. This month we will take the opportunity to learn more about the 21 Spanish Speaking countries, their geography, their art, their people and culture. The celebrations start on Sept 15th due to 5 Spanish speaking countries that celebrate their independence which are, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

The theme for this year’s observance is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping  the Future Together”. One of the colors associated with Hispanic Heritage Month is orange.  Orange is a bright color that reflects the spirit of joy found throughout the Latin American countries.
