Submitted by david.thacker on Thu, 05/19/2011 - 09:37

It felt like it was the 4th of July, and we were at a tribute to the USA and our history.  Wait, it was a tribute to the USA, just not on the 4th of July.  It was the combined Choirs presentation of "Sing Ye Joyful" the spring concert the evening of April 28, 2011.

The little theater was packed and the concert goers were not disappointed. Each of the choirs (Chamber Choir, Women's Chorus, Concert Choir) all had their unique roles. Two SFHJS speech students presented their winning speeches as part of the program as well.

“That was so cool!”, “Wow!”, “I want to go back!” was the buzz from Mr. Waters Earth Systems Honors class after going to Meadow, Utah to visit a Cinder Cone volcano.  The honors class went to the Black Rock desert.             As this year’s musical Ms. Holley chose AIDA written by Elton John and Tim Rice

This story is one originally told through an opera that was transformed into a Broadway musical with exciting, energetic and heart wrenching music.  Chosen to play the lead parts were me, Maddy Shearer as Aida, Zach Van Pelt as Radames, Erica Gebert as Amneris, and Joey Shearer as Mereb.  We were an ecstatic to have the opportunity to play such fantastic parts.  We couldn’t wait to tell this tragic love story to the audiences.  Here is how it goes:

The latest service project Spanish Fork Jr. High has participated in was a school-wide food drive. All of the cans donated by students and teachers went to an organization called Tabitha’s Way. Tabitha’s Way is a new organization in Spanish Fork. They provide a thrift store and food pantry. They have clothes, shoes, and food for the homeless.

To get the students involved in the food drive, there was a competition. Whichever class collected the most cans won fabulous prizes. Here are the results:

Mr. Hubbard’s class easily stole first place with 859 cans!
