Dear SFJHS Parents and Guardians,

Again, It is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year at Spanish Fork Junior High School. We are excited to begin a new school year and have our students back in the building. We are looking forward to a great school year! We have included some additional information that will be helpful as you prepare for the upcoming school year.

Open House

An Open House will be held on August 16th from 1:00 - 4:00pm. All students and parents are invited to come find classrooms, meet teachers and visit the school. Teachers will be in their classrooms for visits. We encourage all students to attend the Open House, especially any students new to Spanish Fork Junior High. We would love to answer any questions and help in any way we can. We will have maps of the school available.

School Fees

School fees may be paid online by going to myschoolfees.com. Items such as the Chromebook Protection Plan and yearbooks can also be paid through My School Fees when paying for required fees. These items are listed under “optional fees.” All credit card transactions, whether in person or online, will incur a $2 fee as directed by a recent district finance policy.

Administrators will be available to answer questions and help with fee waivers. It is necessary to apply for a fee waiver annually; last year’s application will not be valid for this school year. Students may receive a fee waiver for one of the following reasons:

  • Family receives TANF (currently qualified for financial assistance or food stamps)
  • Student receives Supplemental Security Income (qualified child with disabilities)
  • Student qualifies for McKinney-Vento
  • Student is in Foster Care (under Utah or local governmental supervision) or State Custody
  • Student is eligible based on family/household income verification

Please bring the required income verification as described in the fee waiver application as well as the application English Fee Waiver Application // Spanish Fee Waiver Application.

Online Registration

If you have not completed the registration process for your student, please click on the following link to complete the registration process. Information and instructions for registering are provided: https://www.nebo.edu/registration. The online registration process consists of providing or verifying your student's information and electronically signing any documents required by the district and state.

School Lunch

The following information is from Spencer Sainsbury, Nebo School District Child Nutrition Coordinator:

The National School Lunch Program waiver that provided free meals to students has expired. This means that school meals will no longer be automatically free. You will need to submit a Meal Benefits Application in order to qualify for free or reduced-price meals for the 2022-23 school year. Qualification is based on factors including household size, income, participation in assistance programs such as SNAP, FDPIR, and TANF, as well as living situations such as homelessness and migrancy.

Online applications will become available after July 12th. You may access an application by going to your Infinite Campus Menu, then scrolling down to More and clicking on Meal Benefits. Any application signed before July 12th does not pertain to the 2022-23 school year. As a reminder, households must apply every year to confirm eligibility for free or reduced-price meals.

If you do not qualify for free or reduced-priced meals, school meals for secondary students are available at the paid rate of:

Breakfast - $1.50
Lunch - $2.50

Chromebooks

We will be one-to-one with chromebooks again this year. Students can be issued a school chromebook that can be used at school as well as be taken home each day. A parent permission form will be sent home on the first day of school and will need to be signed and returned before students are issued a chromebook. If a student opts to not use a school chromebook they will need to have a personal device to use in class. Students will need to have their chromebook charged and ready for use in classes each day. The cost to replace a damaged or stolen chromebook is $300 and will be charged to the student unless an optional $30 Protection Plan is purchased at the beginning of the school year. Insurance Plan and Loan Agreement

Chromebook Protection Plan

An optional Chromebook Protection Plan is available for $30. This will cover the initial cost of a lost or damaged chromebook. We encourage parents to purchase the Chromebook Protection Plan in case of loss or damage. The cost to replace a chromebook is $300. This fee will be assessed to the student in the event of a lost, stolen or damaged chromebook. The Chromebook Protection Plan can be paid for online through myschoolfees.com along with all other fees listed under “optional fees.” Additional information regarding the Chromebook Protection Plan coverage is located on our website at https://sfjhs.nebo.edu/content/parent-and-student-information. We encourage purchasing the protection plan.

Counseling/Schedule Changes

Any students needing a class change can fill out the Google Form that will be accessible starting August 2nd. For those needing to meet with a counselor, they will be available for class changes by appointment, August 4th and 5th from 8:00am – 2:00pm. You can set an appointment with your counselor by email. Class changes can be made without a fee until August 12th. Requests made between the 13th and the 19th will require a $5.00 class change fee. Please be aware that one request to move a class could cause a change in your whole schedule. Class changes will be limited as we try to keep class sizes balanced. You will only be able to make one class change request.

School Community Council

School Community Council elections will be held Monday, August 15th through Friday, August 19th. If you are interested in participating, please email our School Community Council facilitator, Preston Parrish (preston.parrish [at] nebo.edu), and let him know your interest by August 12th. You may also nominate other SFJHS parents by emailing Mr Parrish.
