These past couple of years, we haven’t been able to participate in Shakespeare Competitions due to Covid-19 restrictions. So, when the Junior High and Middle School drama teachers in our district met, we decided to collaborate and run our own district-wide Jr theatre competitions in lieu of attending Shakespeare Competitions.
After quite a bit of planning and preparation, we had our first annual drama competitions on October 4, 2021. There were some bumps along the way, as was expected for a first run, but the students who participated rallied and did a great job. This gave the Jr. High and Middle School teachers hope that we could continue these competitions annually and fix things as needed.
I’m proud of the work that the students put in since we only had around 5 rehearsals (per competition area) to learn everything and prepare. Our classical scene from Tartuffe, performed by Peyton Green and Allison Huntsman, even won 1st place! Kudos to all the kiddos for their work and dedication for these competitions.
