Learning to play the ukulele. Researching about the Bermuda Triangle. Working on new baseball pitches. Learning about black holes. Making a quilt. Organizing a fundraiser for medical research. Writing a novel. What do all of these things have in common?

They were all projects students in Miss Dannelly’s 7th grade Honors English classes did for Genius Hour! For the last 6 weeks, these students have been working on their projects every Friday in class and home as they took charge of their own learning.

Students began the project by going through an inquiry process to narrow down their ideas and pick a project they were passionate about. These are topics that students have been curious about for a long time, and they were finally given the time and opportunity to explore and learn more!

Each student created a Google Site to help monitor their process and progress throughout the unit and provide updates for their online audience each week. Earlier this week, students presented their projects to their classes to share what they learned. We had musical performances, painting demonstrations, and learned about rovers, coding, historical events, and more! The students were great throughout the entire process, and it was exciting to see them become so enthusiastic and engaged in their learning.. Thank you to all of the students for their hard work, and thank you to all of the parents who supported their students throughout this process!  It was a great way to wrap up the end of this crazy year!
