Feel Good Friday!

In Ms. Whiteside’s 8th grade math class, students explored the answer to the following question: How many stacked cups do you think it would take to reach the top of the table?

We worked through different ways of stacking cups to see how linear graphs would compare with proportional graphs. We challenged student assumptions about all graphs needing to pass through the point (0,0).

And we had a great time transitioning from the theoretical, graphical representation to practicing with cups ourselves.

We won! At yesterday's theatre competitions, our students took first place in the musical number, "We Go Together", and Classical Scenes and 2nd place in Classical Monologue. We also received high marks for our two other scenes. Many of the students will be wearing their show shirts or costumes today to advertise our show tonight. Come out and support our theatre students!

Feel Good Friday!

Thursday night, Spanish Fork Junior High boogied down at the Halloween Bash. Adorned in costume, students danced, played nine-square, bowled with "pumpkins", posed in the photo booth, and decorated with face paint. Dancers were welcomed to the party through a small spook alley.

Thank you to the Leadership Class and the chaperones for making all of this fun happen! Check out the video below and click this link for another short video!

Today we read the short story, "Checkouts" today in class. It is a short story that teaches us to not let fear take control of our choices. With this story, I introduced a reading strategy that I learned at a conference called The Fab Four.  This strategy helps students with reading comprehension. We make predictions, ask questions, clarify words and phrases, and summarize. The students were engaged and enjoyed the story today!
