Mr. Hallam’s ninth-grade students were introduced to some important biology concepts in the best way possible, with candy! They used M&M's candies to learn about making inferences, random sampling, and population groupings. These are important concepts to understand within biology, and students appeared to learn the material with ease.
When asked about the lab, students said it was a cool way to look at data collection. They liked that they were able to approach it hands-on instead of just hearing about another abstract concept. Ellie Wheeler and Macie Smith both explained that the M&M’s grabbed their attention immediately, and eating their data was their favorite part.
