On Wednesday, September 15, Zoo Mania from south Jordan, came to present an educational assembly to all 7th graders about the importance of education and staying in school. Through the use of a Power Point and 11 live exotic animals from around the world (savanna monitor from Africa, green winged macaw from Central America, sugar glider from Australia, ferret North America, great Pyrenees dog from France, Taiwan Beauty Snake from Taiwan, Corn Snake from North America, duck from Asia, chinchilla from South America).
Karen Beverley, the Executive Director, and her assistant Jeri Madsen, enlighten students of 40 different animal related occupations (zoologist, Ferrier, vet, marine biologist, computer programmer, breeder, animal trainer, zoo keeper, vet accountant). Karen emphasized the roles of each occupation and their educational requirements. She stressed how important the skills they learn in school today will affect them in their future.
Students came away with a newfound knowledge of occupations dealing with animals and the care needed for healthy animals. The highlight of the assembly was the live animals brought to show the students. Faculty and staff were involved as well as they handled the live animals.
