Snow Hampers Hike, But Hikers Undeterred

Submitted by david.thacker on Thu, 05/25/2017 - 20:48

On the morning of May 18th, the Spring Hikers awoke to some frightful weather outside.   But they were determined to do the hike they had all signed up for.

They showed up to school prepared to hike the switchbacks trail in Woodland Hills.  On a last minute decision by Coach Johnson, the hikers switched hiking plans.  Instead of the switchbacks, they would take on the slopes of West Mountain because there was not 3 feet of snow out there!

Thank You PTA for Providing Audio Enhancement in Classrooms

Thank you to our PTA members and everyone that contributed to our March Madness fundraiser.  The PTA was able to donate money to install three new audio enhancement sound systems in three classrooms! The addition of audio and sound equipment greatly enhances the classroom experience for students and teachers and the PTA is grateful for everyone’s support that helped make this donation possible.

Ms. Phillips class participated in Fishing Day at Salem Pond, Tuesday, May 9th.  Even Mr. Christensen and Mr. Barber stopped by.  We got a picture with Smokey the Bear.  We caught lots of fish.  When we got back to school we cooked and ate some of the fish, it was delicious!

After School Chess Club Holds Tournament

Submitted by david.thacker on Thu, 05/11/2017 - 06:39

Spread the word!  SFJH has a chess club!

According to Mr. Mortimer, “There will be a chess tournament today right after school. Meet in the Cafeteria to play.”

Mr. Mortimer and Mr. Lawrence have been hosting this club after school this term.  At this writing, this reporter doesn’t know how many more days it will be continuing—we are on end of school countdown after all—but the attendance at today’s meeting was amazing!  If you check SFJH’s Face Book page, you can watch some of the students play during a live session.
