The Lobo Howl interviewed Gabrielle Heywood about girls' soccer.  Gabie is part of the Spanish Fork JV Soccer team.

She has been playing soccer since kindergarten—that’s about 10 years. At first she didn’t want to play sports, but her parents told her she needed to learn to be healthy and exercise. They gave her a list of all of the sports she could play, but she had never heard of soccer. After her parents explained it to her, she couldn’t decide between soccer or basketball. But in the end, she decided on soccer.

Gabie usually plays left or right wing, but sometimes she plays the holding position. She likes being on the team because her teammates are nice and super funny.  They are always complimenting each other. Before games, she usually thinks of things that she can do to improve her game.  She remembers mistakes from previous games and comes up with ways to fix them. Her lucky charm is a lucky ring that she always wears on the finger she almost cut off in seventh grade.

Gabie doesn’t really get distracted during games.  Instead, she just zones out and only thinks about soccer. The only thing she can hear is her team mates and her coach talking to her. She focuses on the passing lanes and triangles of the field. Gabie's biggest fear while playing is messing up and loosing the ball to the other team or having them score off her mistake. Gabie really enjoys playing soccer and being a part of the high school team.
