Ms. Parker's 7th Grade Language Arts students at Spanish Fork Jr. High School commemorate the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor by comparing fiction to history. Students participated in an “I See, I Think, I Wonder” activity by examining primary photos of Japanese-Americans who were evacuated from their homes in 1942. After reading primary historical documents and studying a variety of articles about the event, students compared history to fiction by reading Journey to Topaz by Yoshiko Uchida, a fictional account of a young girl and her family who are uprooted from their home and sent to the Japanese Internment Camp in Topaz, Utah.
