Tim wanted to change the shape of his dog run so that his dog has more room but he isn't sure this will give him more space. He decides to increase the length by 10% and decrease the width by 10%. Is the new area more that the old? Why or why not?
Last Week Answer: $108
Spanish Fork Junior High would like to recognize Marshall Gorrell, Howie Kinikini, and Easton Kojima for making the 7th grade Utah All-Star team. They were chosen to represent Utah in the National tournament in Naples, Florida this December. They participated in the FBU National Showcase where the best of the best come out to demonstrate their skills in front of division I college recruits, and NFL alumni. Howie Kinikini received an award for being one of the top 5 overall players nationally ranked for the FBU National Showcase.
Mrs. Phillips' class participated in Read Across America Day by celebrating Dr. Seuss. They read many of his stories, graphed fish, and made Oobleck. There was even a photo booth to dress up as Dr. Seuss characters! Mrs. Phillips loved eating Green Eggs and Ham from the cafeteria.
To apply, students must create (or log in to) their Complete Scholarships account (during account creation, students are asked their high school graduation year, which automatically matches them to the correct Plan Ahead for College Costs scholarship application for their grade).
The Garden Problem
Rose fills each of the rectangular regions of her rectangular flower bed with a different type of flower. The lengths, in feet, of the rectangular regions in her flower bed are as shown in the figure. She plants one flower per square foot in each region. Asters cost $1 each, begonias $1.50 each, cannas $2 each, dahlias $2.50 each, and Easter lilies $3 each. What is the least possible cost, in dollars, for her garden? Be sure you clearly explain or clearly show work!
