The Lady Lobos took on the Payson Grizzlies in the Nebo District girls’ basketball championship on Tuesday night at Salem Hills High School. The gym was filled with students and parents all cheering the Lobos to victory. The first half was plagued with nerves and turnovers for the Lobos but after a quick half time break, the Lobos spring to action and finally began to settle in to the game. It was a hard battle and the score was close for 3 1/2 quarters.
The last 4 minutes we finally started to look like ourselves. We were confident and smart with the ball. We knew we needed our mental toughness and to box out and rebound to win. Eliza Bowman had some major boards and Erica Allan used her leadership and monster defense to get a few stops on Payson.
The Lobos pulled ahead and ended up winning the game 51-39. It was a well-deserved and hard fought battle which is something we were not used to. You've got to give credit to Payson for coming out and taking it to us. I am so proud of the girls and their fire and passion for the game and determination to win no matter what. We are Champions!!!!
