This year, SFJHS is participating in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.

This program is the United States’ largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service.

Created in 1995 by Prudential and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the program honors middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state and national level.

Math Problem of the Week

Paint Problem

Suppose you’ve made a batch of green paint by mixing 2 cans of blue paint with 7 cans of yellow paint, but it’s run out. Your little brother, trying to be helpful sees an open can of blue paint that is ¾ full. He pours the can into a big bowl, then starts mixing in yellow paint. He pours in three cans of yellow before he brings it to you. How much paint, and of what color, would you have to add to your brother’s batch of paint to fix it so it is the exact same shade of green as your original batch?

Thank You PTA

We have an amazing PTA at Spanish Fork Junior High.  In this week alone, they invited teachers to come peruse the offerings at the book fair ahead of the students; supplied us with lunch while we looked; managed a well-organized, well stocked book fair, all week long, so students could find their favorite titles; extended the fair hours, so parents could stop by during Parent/Teacher Conference Thursday night; AND fed teachers dinner prior to PTC.

They did all this with smiling faces and loving hearts!

Everyday Strong

Our school counseling and psychology team presented the Everyday Strong program during Parent Teacher Conferences.

Everyday Strong is a new approach to anxiety and depression.  Its objective?  Give parents, teachers, neighbors, and other trusted adults the tools to build resilient children.  The focus is on fostering safety, connection, and confidence in the students around us.

Fall Captains’ Academy

Submitted by david.thacker on

Fall Sports Captains’ Academy was a success!  After being chosen to represent their fall sports teams, the Captains were able to attend the Academy and learn many great and important things.

They learned how important it is to get enough sleep, how to exude good sportsmanship, and how to lead others by example.

Captains’ Academy is always a great experience for all that attend!

After a few hiccups, the SFJH annual Fall Hike went off with a bang.

We were able to hike up the River trail and enjoy the great weather and scenery!

What a fun day!
