“That was so cool!”, “Wow!”, “I want to go back!” was the buzz from Mr. Waters Earth Systems Honors class after going to Meadow, Utah to visit a Cinder Cone volcano.  The honors class went to the Black Rock desert. While they were there, they explored some Lava Tubes, fissures, and hunted for some olivine crystals. After a long day in the lava field they took a dip in a hot springs nearby. Everyone had a good time.

Teacher of the Month

Kris Holley–

Kris Holley is our Teacher of the Month for April.  She works countless hours for our school in the drama department.  The school plays and musicals that she directs are outstanding!  Ms. Holley graduated from BYU and has taught at Spanish Fork Junior High for 9 years.  She has won an “Excellence in Service” and “Best Director Awards”.

The latest service project Spanish Fork Jr. High has participated in was a school-wide food drive. All of the cans donated by students and teachers went to an organization called Tabitha’s Way. Tabitha’s Way is a new organization in Spanish Fork. They provide a thrift store and food pantry. They have clothes, shoes, and food for the homeless.

To get the students involved in the food drive, there was a competition. Whichever class collected the most cans won fabulous prizes. Here are the results:

Mr. Hubbard’s class easily stole first place with 859 cans!

Mr. Beardall graduated from Utah Valley University in Health Education and was also on the Dean’s List.  He has taught at Spanish Fork Junior High School for two years.

He also serves as the head coach for the boy’s basketball and helps out with the track team. 

He enjoys spending time with family, playing and watching sports (especially the Boston Red Sox), and landscaping.

Mr. Beardalls teaching philosophy is simple; “Always be prepared to leave a lasting impression.”  Spanish Fork Junior High is grateful to have Mr. Beardall on our faculty. 

Mrs. Elaine Peterson has been named Nebo School District's Secondary Teacher of the Year! Congratulations! This is a great honor for her as well as our school! We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful teacher working in our school.

Congratulations to Branson Ashworth!  This week in Virginia Beach, VA.; he placed 8th nationally in the freshman 112 lb. wrestling division in the National Championships!  Branson’s favorite moment of the week was becoming an All American.  

Branson is an amazing student-athlete who is an asset to his classmates and a pleasure to teach.  We are very proud and honored to have him as a student at Spanish Fork Junior High School.

The Utah State math Contest was held on March 16th, at UVU.   Thirty students represented our school, 10 from each grade.  They all did very well and our school placed in category #4 (with 5 being the highest).  The top ten finishers at our school, from top down,  were:  Westley Cook (9), Suzie Rhodes (9), Jonathan DeYoung (9), Preston Weight (9), Brandon Baum (8), James Carrington (9), Jeremy Thacker (9), Devri Adams (8),  Rachel Hutchings (8), and Morgan Harrison (8).&nbs

At the Central Utah Science and Engineering fair held at BYU our school had a fantastic showing,  the following qualified or won the following:

Ethan Adams was selected to go to the Westminster Roots and Shoots fair. His project was titled The Effect of Microbes on Decomposition of Native Soil

John Horton won one of the U.S. Navy/Marine Corps awards. His project was titled Comparative Velocities of Rockets with Surface Dimpling in Different Location
