The week of September 23rd to the 29th was our PTA book fair! For the first four days, the book fair was held in the library where students could go during pack time, before school, or after school to browse or buy. On the last day, it was moved to the lunchroom for the parent teacher conference. There were many books bought by students, and the most popular ones seemed to be Margaret Peterson's Found and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
Here are brief overviews of these books:
If you read The Lobo Howl’s last Top Five story, you would remember that we took a survey of guys’ and girls’ favorite physical feature about the opposite gender. Since eyes were the favorite feature last time, we used that as the starting point for this issue’s question: “What is your favorite eye color?” We surveyed ten boys and ten girls and recorded their answers.
“Kids need to learn to do things for the right reason,” Mr. Huff told The Lobo Howl. Reporter Ashlee Johnson sat down with Vice Principal Dave Huff to find out what his top concerns were for SFJH students.
“[Students] need to work with their teachers and do the work when it’s given. In junior high, external stuff doesn’t help; you have to do it for yourself,” Mr. Huff explained, “Use your class time doing assignments.”
SFJH Students! It’s Reflections time again! This year's PTA Reflection’s theme is “Diversity Means...” The deadline to enter was October 13. Hopefully, lots of SFJH students entered., The judging is based on the artistic merit, creativity, and interpretation of the theme.
The Lobo Howl had the opportunity to interview Juliana Millet, number 34 on the Spanish Fork High School girls' soccer team. Juliana started playing soccer when she was in 3rd grade. She decided to play soccer because all of her friends were doing it. When she got the chance, she decided to join club soccer even though her friends didn't.
October 6-8, our school's Shakespeare Team went to Cedar City on the SUU campus to compete against other junior high and middle schools in acting and dancing!
On Thursday, at about 3:00 pm, they arrived at the hotel then went to take group pictures. Later that evening, they had a chance to visit the Tuachan theater and watch the performance Grease. Even though it was cold and rainy, the team still had a good time.
Mr. Millman is holding his annual Pumpkin Drawing Contest to see who has the best pumpkin drawing skills. The entries are due October the 24th, 2011.
The categories are happy, scary, funny, or bizarre. You can use a pen, pencil, crayon, markers, watercolor, or colored pencils, so get creative.
There are award for winners. For seventh, eighth, and ninth grade, the prizes are ten dollars for first place, and twenty-five dollars for best in show. There are also prizes for honorable mentions.
Our faculty teacher of the month for September was Mr. Millman. He was nominated by his fellow staff members to be awarded this great honor. Here is one nomination that was sent in for him.
“Dave is a genuine down to Earth good guy. Students like him and learn art, but just as important he is a humble friend to any of his colleagues and fellow teachers.”--Mr. Bass
Spanish Fork Jr. High's Show Choir for the year of 2011-2012 has now been formed! Mrs. Hopkins held auditions on Friday, September 30th . Students trying out for Ms. Hopkins learned a few dance steps which they performed in groups of three, and had to sing their favorite Disney song.
