Biology Students Celebrate the Cell Through Art

Submitted by david.thacker on

Did you see all the cells around the school a few weeks ago? They were drawn by Mr. Hallams’ biology classes. Each student was given a box of chalk and sent outside to find a square of cement and draw an animal or plant cell.

There were many creative cells drawn. Most students finished their cells in the first 10 minutes of class so they all got creative drawing mustaches and other things on themselves! Some kids were lying on the ground and tracing their silhouettes on the road.

On Saturday September 23rd, the student council woke up early to drive to Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights for a special leadership conference. After arrival, they were sent into the auditorium along with 10-15 other student councils. At this meeting, a man in a wheel-chair gave an inspirational speech about always trying, even if things look bad, even if you might not be able to do the task.

Foods Classes Have Power Tools!

Submitted by david.thacker on

If you've been in Mrs. Larsen's room lately, maybe you’ve noticed the new bright red blenders. These blenders are called the “Total Blender” and were donated by Blendtec, a company in Orem that also makes grain mills.

The Total Blender is a professional, $500.00 machine that every Food Lab in Nebo School District received. Our school received eight of these blenders for free! Mrs. Larsen, the Foods teacher said, “This is a truly amazing blender!”

Mr. Dayton’s Tech Classes Harness the Power of the Sun

Submitted by david.thacker on

For the past few weeks Mr. Dayton and his 6th and 7th period classes have been building, designing, and racing solar powered cars. The classes seemed to enjoy building their own cars and getting to race, especially those taking home wins!

Students used kits that contained small pocket sized solar panels, thin wooden blocks, plastic tires, motors, and small plastic gears to build their cars. Students cut, sanded, painted and assembled their own cars. After they were built, students tested their cars and made any final changes to their designs.

Successes of the Spanish Fork FFA Chapter

Submitted by david.thacker on
We are getting ready to travel to the National FFA Convention next week and we have some neat things going on while we are back there.  We will be receiving our National Chapter Award, which only 5 chapters in the state receive each year.  There are a handful of students who will be picking up their American FFA Degree, the highest degree a FFA member can receive.  We also feel honored to have a student from our chapter running to be a National FFA Officer, Amberley Snyder.
